Instead of settling in for the evening at home after a work day, we hit the house long enough to shove dinner in & grab the dog, then we headed cross town to Gresham. We found a beautiful park & piled out, Finn's leash around my waist to keep him close, Kade up on his little push bike. Finn did wonderfully practicing proper meet & greets with Spike, another foster dog.
To make sure all goes smooth for two dogs meeting for the first time, we hold one dog so they can't turn around & let the other dog get a good whiff of butt, then vice versa. Then we walk the dogs close together to see how they feel about things. Finn's come quite a long ways with this, he can meet & be cool either with more play or just walking away or leaving it, and Spike did pretty good too. I talked to the foster for a bit, explaining a few other training techniques, while Kade rode his bike all around.
The adopters loved Spike at first sight, & their pup was happy to have an older brother. Kade & Finn managed to hold it together while the adoption went super smooth, then Spike hopped right in the SUV for the ride to his new home!
Finally it was time for the best part of the day, just hanging out with kid & dog. We chased each other around the playground until almost full dark. It's a school & work night, but playing is always more important, right? Yeah kid, I'm a sucker!
